AMAZING ACTIVITIES WE DID IN CALIRAYA RESORT CLUB AT LUMBAN, LAGUNA

History:

In 1993, Caliraya was exclusive to a certain assembly under the regulation of Word of Life but it became a center for missionaries, and accepted missionary clients only to avoid commercializing the place. The resort only had five rooms which could accommodate two or three people. The place then was sold to Tiffany Tower Realty Corp. which Tiffany developed and continued the unfinished projects of the Word of Life. In February 1995, Caliraya held its grand opening to the public with three conditions: no smoking, no drinking and a compulsory Bible study. Currently, Caliraya Resort Club, Inc. is operated by Caliraya Resort Club, Inc. Now, it has the capacity to accommodate 800 people for overnight stay and day tours.

Getting here from Metro Manila is more or less a 1.5 hour drive via SLEX. The place is surrounded by a lagoon, as such, we had to take a boat to get to the resort. Activities that are offered include wall-climbing, mudslide, swimming and zip line, to name a few. Some activities like zip line are for a fee though.

Big groups staying overnight can avail of dormitory type of rooms. The rooms, including the restrooms, are old but are clean and well-maintained. Food is served buffet but tasted nothing special though; just okay.

Upon arrival, the staff were pleasant and accommodating. they helped us with our luggage's and get us settled. It looked old but clean. there were 2 bathrooms. each had a toilet and 2 showers with heater. I thought that was neat considering the number of people who were gonna use it. The only problem is the toilet space is too small that you're knees are almost touching the door when you sit on the toilet. It kinda makes you claustrophobic even if you're not. So you end up just keeping the toilet door open which defeats the purpose of having the 2 other showers in there.

Activities We Did in Caliraya Resort Club:

1. Slide Pinoy

Slide Pinoy is like a mini zip line where you have to sit on a small wheel or chair tied to a cable and just wait until you reaching the other point. With no gears attached to the rider, the key is to hold on tightly to the rope and pray that pulley system minimizes friction well to help you accelerate. It’s interesting how it can support both kids and adults’ weight.

2. Swimming

Caliraya Resort Club has three swimming pools built side by side each other: two children’s swimming pools (1-4 feet) with basketball court and the wave pool with artificial wave generator (5-6 feet). We enjoyed flow-riding at the artificial waves which made us feel like kids all over again!

3. Hanging Bridge

This was my first time to pass through a hanging bridge and thank goodness, I had managed to cross it safely (slowly but surely). The hanging bridge is only the first step to cross to the long hanging bridges. I enjoy the mini bridge and wonder a mini fishing pond. You go and have fishing using the fish hook if you catch a fish, then start to cook it.

4. Sky Bicycle

Caliraya Resort Club is not a circus yet we saw people riding bicycles on ropes up high. The Sky Bicycle is one of the resort’s newest attraction. “Cycling on the sky” is advised not to be done in breakneck speed.

Each rider is reminded to continue pedaling despite the fear, angst and the strength of the wind. For a two-way sky-cycling lasting in no longer than 10 minutes, the sky-rider is charged PHp 200.

5. Wall Climbing and Rappel

Everybody in my group enjoys the wall climbing and rappelling because is part of our amazing race game. They climb as fast as they can to reach the top. Then after on the top of the wall next is to rappel. I don’t try to do this sport because I’m in-charge in picture pictures.

6. Kayaking

We divided ourselves into four groups so we could all experience gaining control over steering the kayaking. One people took the role of the paddler, keeping the boat steady while seated. Navigating the tricky waters of the Lake Caliraya was another unique encounter in our stay.

7. Mud Slide

Basically, one would have to climb all the way up and prepare to slide in a seating position while the activity facilitator splashes water with soap for a smooth slip. Riders may be in a group for increased acceleration.

If you’re thinking to give it a go, be very careful because you might get injured upon landing on rocks and mass of mud formed from loose dirt and water.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

The list of activities I posted above reflects only a snapshot of what you can do in Caliraya Resort Club Inc.
